Get Well Soon

It has been said that “Whomsoever the last day of his own life finds unprepared, this last day will find unprepared also. (Augustine)” It was also said later that, “Many who plan to seek God at the eleventh hour die at 10:30. (Author Unknown)” Death is coming to is all. Due to our nature, born into sin, our once perfectly made bodies now have an expiration date. This is our born punishment because of the choice that was made. “By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.” (Genesis 3:19 NIV)

So why does me saying this mean anything to all of us? If you were paying attention to the picture above, you’d see how many feel about death. The obvious is apparent, yet we trick ourselves into believing we are gonna be okay. Why is that? Don’t we know that when we’re sick that we need medicine to get better? Or when we’re tired that we need sleep to recoup? Death will happen to us all; yet it’s the death of our souls that I am the most concerned about!

Have you ever thought about the number of non-believers who truly are on the road to mortal death and don’t have the relationship with Christ? What about the number of believers who are on the path to mortal death and don’t even realize that they are spiritually sick? Just attending worship half-hearted, sitting in a Bible study, volunteering on a mission project, or even listening to Christian music will NOT save your soul from death!

A deepening relationship….ACTIVE in everyday, every breath kind of bond is the best preparation for eternal life! Each day we hear some sad news of another tragedy or loss of life around us; yet unless we know them personally, our emotions are hardly affected. Yet a real grieving occurs when it’s someone close to us personally and we’ve invested parts of our lives with them. Jesus invested His whole life into us….each and every one of us. Can you imagine how He must feel over and over again when He loses one of us simply because they ignored Him?

I’ve been a Christian for over 15 years now and there have been days where the life I feel inside is numb and borderline dead. Why is that? Well, for many of us “Christians” we get too comfortable in the lackluster, lukewarmness of our faith as it’s been and then before you know it….your really dead in your relationship with Jesus Christ. Then what? How do you change that feeling? How can you bring LIFE back to your spirit and it be lasting!?

We hear the normal read His word daily, pray earnestly & constantly, be in fellowship with others and attend His house weekly. Sounds easy and if you are doing that, you should feel alive right?? Yet, like myself, so many times the normalcy of our actions callus our feelings of spending time with Him! Meaning the rhetorical patterning numbs the senses….we don’t FEEL the passion, the encouragement, the hope as we should every breath! Church becomes a business or social club. Reading the Word becomes as “blah” as reading school books, and praying is just a practiced line of the same play! Jesus becomes a mindful associate, not a life-giving Father you long to be with!

Scripture doesn’t sway in its reality of what LOVING Christ is all about! “And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. (Deuteronomy 6:5-9 NLT)

“If you want to be my disciple, you must hate everyone else by comparison—your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be my disciple. (Luke 14:26 NLT)

I am writing this to you about those who are trying to deceive you. But as for you, Christ has poured out his Spirit on you. As long as his Spirit remains in you, you do not need anyone to teach you. For his Spirit teaches you about everything, and what he teaches is true, not false. Obey the Spirit’s teaching, then, and remain in union with Christ. (1 John 2:26, 27 GNT)

Don’t fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are anything but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other. Act on what you hear! Those who hear and don’t act are like those who glance in the mirror, walk away, and two minutes later have no idea who they are, what they look like. But whoever catches a glimpse of the revealed counsel of God—the free life!—even out of the corner of his eye, and sticks with it, is no distracted scatterbrain but a man or woman of action. That person will find delight and affirmation in the action. (James 1:22-25 MSG)

‘I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. (Revelation 3:15, 16 NASB)

Wow…..are you not convicted yet? Can you admit to yourself that you might not feel as ALIVE as you think you are in Christ? Look at it this way….remember how you felt or even feel now of you’re blessed to, to see your favorite grandparent? Your best friend you haven’t seen in years? Your spouse after a long day at work?? MAGNIFY that a Ka-zillion times over, if that’s possible to comprehend, is how much Christ is happy to see you….to be with you every single moment!!

If you’re feeling “dead” inside, don’t just take the hint of Get Well Soon….GET WELL NOW! Each day that passes is another day closer to our last day on earth and farther away from where we need to be with Jesus!! Deny the flesh and embrace the freshness of the spirit of our living God!! Amen!! 🙂
